Privacy policy
Plain-language summary first, full policy below. Nothing surprising — we treat your fleet data the way we'd want ours treated.
Effective 2026-10-10 · v1.2
1. Introduction
BargeIQ ("we", "our", or "us") provides fleet-management hardware and software for inland maritime operators. This Privacy Policy explains what personal and operational information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
This policy applies to bargeiq.com, the BargeIQ iOS application, our hardware trackers, and any related services (together, the "Services"). By using the Services you agree to this policy.
2. Information we collect
Account information: name, email address, phone number, company name, and role, provided when a user account is created or an estimate is requested.
Fleet telemetry: position, speed, heading, hard-hit events, geofence entries and exits, battery state, sensor readings, and other data transmitted by BargeIQ hardware installed on your assets.
Application usage: pages visited, features used, in-app clicks, and diagnostic logs, collected to keep the Services secure and to improve them.
Communications: emails, phone calls, and support tickets you send us. We keep records of these to support you and improve our team's responsiveness.
3. How we use information
To deliver the Services — showing your fleet on the map, routing alerts to the right phones, generating estimates, and answering support requests.
To secure the Services — detecting fraud, abuse, and unauthorized access.
To improve the Services — analyzing aggregate usage to understand which features fleets rely on most.
To communicate with you about your account, service updates, security notices, and (with your consent) product news.
4. How we share information
With people you designate: users you invite to your BargeIQ account see the fleet data you configure them to see.
With service providers: cloud infrastructure (AWS), email delivery, and analytics vendors that process data on our behalf under written data-processing agreements.
For legal reasons: to comply with valid legal process, respond to lawful government requests, or protect BargeIQ, our users, or the public.
In business transfers: if BargeIQ is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, customer data may transfer to the successor entity — subject to this policy or a materially similar successor policy.
We do not sell your data to advertisers, data brokers, or any third party for marketing purposes.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the categories above exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
5. Text message (SMS) alerts
If you enroll in BargeIQ text message alerts, we collect your mobile number, the date and time you agreed, the consent wording you agreed to, and where you enrolled (account setup or Settings). We use them only to send the fleet alerts your company enables (such as breakaway, geofence, battery, impact, sensor, engine, tracker-offline and vessel-traffic alerts), to verify your number, to confirm your enrollment or opt-out, and to respond to HELP requests.
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.
You can stop text alerts at any time by replying STOP to any message or by turning off Text message alerts in the app. Program details are in the SMS section of our Service terms (bargeiq.com/terms/#sms).
6. Data retention
Standard fleet-data retention is one year, configurable up to seven years or held indefinitely under legal-hold. Account information is retained for the life of the account and for a reasonable period after termination to satisfy legal, accounting, or reporting obligations.
You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting legal@bargeiq.com. Some data may be retained where required by law or in aggregated, de-identified form for analytics.
7. Security
We use industry-standard controls to protect your data: encryption in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest, granular access controls, single sign-on, and audit trails on account actions.
No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach that affects your data, we will notify affected customers without undue delay and consistent with applicable law.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent for optional communications.
To exercise these rights, contact legal@bargeiq.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
9. Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies for essential functions (login sessions, security), and — with your consent where required — for analytics that help us understand how the site is used.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies may make some parts of the Services stop working.
10. Children's privacy
The Services are not intended for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact legal@bargeiq.com so we can remove it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new effective date, and — for account holders — sent by email. Continued use of the Services after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
12. Contact us
